Let’s talk fragrance.For as long as I can remember, scent and specifically my desire to smell EVERYTHING has been a driving force in my 41 years on this planet.My earliest memories are part visual and part olfactory. And to this day, scent is is probably my favourite sense. My most coveted book is Patrick Süskind’s 1985 ‘Perfume: The Story of a Murderer’. That book describes scent in a way that makes you actually feel it. I love the way humans smell. I love the way animals smell. I love the differences in our skin scent chemistry. Humans smell lactonic, milky, and of overripe cheese. The science of pheromones is a fascinating journey.When I am immersed in a scent, I can hear it’s music and feel it’s touch. It arouses an almost hypnotic, atmospheric warmth.I do wear perfume. Every day. But I can almost not bare to walk through the generic smell of a department store perfume section. You see, for the most part designer perfumes are made to appeal to the masses and often don’t use the finest distillations of ingredients. So you end up with something smelling a little synthetically generic. This is where NICHE fragrances differ. Niche fragrance houses generally only make perfumes, not clothes, bags, belts and so on. So they are passionate artisans, alchemist wizards! And dear Lord can their creation’s transport you.Today I’m at home on a Sunday and feeling in need of comfort. I’m wearing @bdkparfumsparis GRIS CHARNEL. A beautiful lactonic chai latte, fig scent. Oh it is so utterly divine and perfect for this time of year!
